Liver Cancer

Liver Cancer

Hepatocellular Carcinoma generally known under the name of liver cancer is a mortal disease. It will kill almost all the patients who have it in one year. Majority of the common parts of the world with high rate of people affected by this disease are Saharan Africa and the South-East Asia.

Liver which is the largest organ in the body is found behind the ribs on the right side of the abdomen and it has two parts: the right lobe and the smaller left lobe. It has many important functions which maintain a person in good health; it removes harmful materials of blood, it makes the enzymes and the bile which help us to digest food, and it also converts the food into necessary substances required for the life and the growth. The liver obtains its blood supply from two vessels, the hepatic portal vein from where the majority of blood come, and the rest comes from the hepatic artery.

The hepatic tumours are tumours or growths on or in the liver, which can be benign or malignant. The tumours of the liver occur when there is an inaccuracy in the normal control of growth of all the cells in the liver, including the liver cells themselves, bile duct, or blood vessels in the liver. The liver cancer can lead to the enlarging of liver which can have the consequence such as pain in the higher abdomen or pain in the right shoulder. There are some other common symptoms of liver cancer like nausea, the weakness, the loss of weight etc. Other symptoms of liver cancer include the jaundice and the misbalance of fluid in the body.
.
The best manner of preventing the liver cancer is to avoid the risk factors which are related with lung cancer. To keep far away from the excessive use of alcohol and nicotinism can reduce the risk of liver cancer. The prevention and the treatment of the infections of HBV and HCV are also important. The suitable treatment of water can reduce the risk of arsenic in drinking water. The good treatment of the inherited diseases related to the cirrhosis and the liver cancer can reduce the risk of develop both these disease. Although the risk of liver cancer cannot be decreased to zero, it can be reduced by avoiding known risk factors.

The treatments for the liver cancer are little. The symptoms of liver cancer are not usually obvious until the hepatic tumour is advanced, thus detection is often too late. Other risk factors, such as cirrhosis, usually make the surgery or other treatments risky. The treatment of liver cancer includes the surgery, the radiological procedures, the radiation therapy, innovating chemotherapy and other treatments

The surgery can remove a small tumour in liver through a process known the as resection. If all the obvious evidences of the tumour are removed, the chances of the survival rise to 25%. The successful resections, however, are rare: often, the cirrhosis complicates the surgery, leaving a liver too damaged to function after the surgery.

The liver transplantation is possible, but it is not the principal techniques used against the liver cancer. The radiation therapy and chemotherapy usually have limited effect on hepatic tumours. A new approach, selective internal radiation therapy provides a high amount of radiation directly to the tumour without affecting the surrounding healthy tissues.

Leukemia

Leukemia

Leukemia popularly known as blood cancer originates in the bone marrow and the lymph system, the two bodies which make blood. In leukemia, these two bodies produce the abnormal and immature white blood cells, which are known as leucocytes. For some people, these two bodies produce many leucocytes which make blood to have a whitish tinge. Here the production of the normal cells and the capacity to fight against the infection decreases.

When the leukemic cells accumulate the production of oxygen- carrying red blood globules, the blood-coagulation cells and the normal leucocytes decrease, which make the capacity lower to fight against the infection. If this is not treated at the right time, leukemic cells can destroy bone marrow, can enter in to blood circulation, and that can affect other parts of the body like the lymph nodes, the spleen, the liver, the brain and the spinal cord. Bone marrow is a sponge like substance present in our bones which makes the three most important types of the cells that a human have in his blood, and these cells are: the white blood cells, the platelets and the red blood cells. Blasts or immature cells which are found in the bone marrow occur only in the cases like leukemia and other cancers. The blasts or immature cells will not develop completely or even worse they could mature but mature in a false manner in the case of lukemia.

There are four types of leukemia namely: acute, chronic, lymphocytic and myelogenous. There is a difference between acute and chronic leukemia because the acute leukemia develops very quickly and chronic leukemia develops very slowly. Acute leukemia is frequently found with the children.

Leukemia has many symptoms but they are not identical to each other. These symptoms are: the weakness or chronic tiredness, fever of unknown origin, the loss of weight which is not due to dieting or exercise, bacterial or viral infections, frequent headaches, skin eruption, nonspecific ortho pain, easy bruise, bleeding of gums or the nose, blood in urine or stool, enlarged lymph nodes or spleen and abdominal plenitude.

The presence of leukemia can be only identified by the doctors by conducting blood tests and examining bone marrow. It is known that leukemia occurs more often in the males than in the females and more often in white people than in the black people, but the cause of leukemia and why this appears with a person, and still is unknown.

The treatment for leukemia implies a series of cancer therapies and prolonged courses of cancer medications. Considering the fact that there is no treatment is presently available for leukemia, the results of the treatments available are unstable. The reaction of the patients to the leukemia treatments and the therapies are strongly based on the age, sex, the type of leukemia, and the promptitude of the medical intervention. The early diagnosis and the prompt treatment increase the possibility of the complete recovery.

Kidney Cancer

Kidney Cancer

Just like any other part in our body, kidneys also have the possibility of developing cancer. The common disorder of the kidneys which is usually confused and related with the kidney stones is the kidney cancer. The kidney cancer is the seventh most common cancer and it is the tenth most common cause of cancer dead among the men. Men have more possibility of getting affected by kidney cancer than women.  If cancer spreads apart from kidneys, it is difficult to treat.

The kidney cancer shows many symptoms. However, if the kidney cancer is found in the earlier stages, there are strong chances for a full recovery. The kidney cancer not often shows all the symptoms, thus unless it is detected by a doctor by an analysis of urine test, it is difficult to detect. The children and the adults tend to develop two different types of kidney cancer. The type of kidney cancer that the adults are most likely to develop is renal cell carcinoma and the type of kidney cancer which the children are most likely to develop is the Wilm’s tumour.

The most common symptoms of kidney cancer are loss of weight, abnormal coloured urine, blood in urine, back and side pain, and the abdominal pains. These are not the only symptoms which can be noted. The additional symptoms include the paleness, the constipation, and the excessive growth of hair particularly in the females. These symptoms are also signs of common diseases and hence kidney cancer is difficult to detect.

Like other such cancers, an early tracking of kidney cancer is a key for a full recovery. If kidney cancer is not detected for a longer period, greater is the chance of getting spread to other parts of the body. When a cancer extends to other part of the body it is termed as metastasize. If detected early, the possibility for a full recovery is higher. There are several forms of treatment available for kidney cancer. The stage of cancer is an important factor of determination in the type of treatment to be employed for kidney cancer.

Surgery to remove a tumour of kidney, or the kidney itself, provides a reasonable chance of treatment if cancer did not spreads. The surgery for the kidney cancer implies the removal of the entire kidney. Researches had made advancement in the field of cancer treatment. It was determined that by only removing the tumour and leaving the intact kidney, when it was possible, the patient faced a little of chance of failure of kidney and with a greater chance of full recovery after the treatment.

Another type of latest treatment for the kidney cancer indicated under the name of the “arterial embolization”. It is a process where the vessel which provides blood to the cancer affected kidney patients is blocked. Other treatments include the radiation therapy, chemo therapy and the immuno therapy, which employs the immune system of the body to fight against cancer. Some of the risk actors for developing kidney cancer are the occurrence in family antecedents, age category, the nicotinism, obesity, hypertension, and dialysis in the long run, exposure to the radiations or the industrial chemicals or inactive life style.

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Written by admin on Saturday, October 18th, 2008 in Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

The disease of Hodgkin is a type of lymphoma. The lymphoma is the cancer of the lymphoid tissue which belongs to the lymphatic system. It is an important immune system which is composed of the bodies such as the spleen, the vessels and the lymph nodes. The lymphatic system produces and transports a fluid made of plasma and white blood cells called the lymph, from the tissues to blood circulation.

The Hodgkin’s lymphoma affects the lymph nodes which are found in our neck, behind the sternum or that found between the lungs. These are the most common organs which get affected when this type of lymphoma starts. Other lymph nodes which can be affected by the Hodgkin’s lymphoma are those which are found in our abdomen, under our arms or those in groin. The most common places that the Hodgkin’s lymphoma affects are the liver and the spleen. Since  everyone has lymph tissues in their body, this type of lymphoma can start from almost any part of our body and thus extend to other parts of the body. The Hodgkin’s lymphoma can affect both children and adults as well. The treatment will differ according to the age group.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma also has some risk factors. In this type of lymphoma age is one of the f risk actors. If a person is in his early or late adulthood, then he is in more danger to develop this disease. Moreover, the men have more possibility of getting affected by this disease. The genetics is also a risk factor in the case of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The Epsin Barr virus is also considered a risk factor in this disease. If you are affected by this virus, you are in a danger to develop the Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The disease of Hodgkin particularly assigns the old people who are aged above 60.

The Hodgkin lymphoma assigns those people with a weak immune system and the people exposed to the virus called Epstein Barr. The increased lymph nodes and the unexpected loss of weight are the first symptoms for the Hodgkin lymphoma, and for the confirmation of this disease the patients should consult a doctor. The process of the determination of disease comprises a microscopic watch with a sample of tissue of lymph node. The cause of the Hodgkin lymphoma is unknown, but it is found that the risk factors can lead to the  development of this disease. These factors include the exposure of Epstein Barr virus. This virus is responsible for infectious mononucleosis.

The symptoms of the Hodgkin lymphoma are similar to the symptoms of each infection: the increased lymph nodes, night sweats and unexpected loss of weight. It is very important for the individuals who experience these symptoms to contact a doctor to determine the cause. If the disease of Hodgkin is detected, one recommends making a biopsy of the part. The process implies removal of small sample of tissues of lymph node which will be examined under a microscope. It is necessary for the doctor to project the treatment and one knows it that if the disease were identified at a lower stage where there is a better probability for the recovery.

Colon Cancer

Colon Cancer

The colon cancer also called colorectal cancer is the third leading deadliest cancer. The regularity of cancer colorectal changes around the world; it is common in the Western and rare in Asia and Africa. The countries where people have adopted to the Western culture have the possibility of getting affected by colon cancer.

The colon is the highest part of the large intestine. The large intestine is the last element of the digestive area, which is a tube having five to six feet length; the first five feet structure the colon which then connects approximately to six inches rectum, and supplement finally with the anus. Approximately during three to eight hours after having eaten, before food reaches the colon, the nutrients were immersed and the remainder is liquid waste. The colon functions like converter, changing this liquid waste in to stool. More stool remains in the colon for a longer period higher will be the risk of colon cancer.

The colon cancer includes cancerous growths of the colon, rectum and appendix. These cancerous growths hinder the smooth movement of the bowels. This may leads to constipation. This progression can take the years which grants an opportunity for early tracking with screening tests. When there is a growth occurring in the colon, that will be reflected in your bowel movement. The cancerous growth hinders the smooth movement of the bowel. This may lead to constipation. The puffing-up and the cramping which results from the constipation are the other symptoms.

The symptoms of the colon cancer are abundant and nonspecific. They are the diarrhea or the constipation, red or dark blood in the stool, the loss of weight, the abdominal pain, cramps, or the puffing-up. Other conditions such as the irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis  etc. Generally, these symptoms are not due to cancer, other problems can cause the same symptoms, thus the checking with your doctor should promptly be made to be diagnosed and treated as feasible.

The treatment for the colon cancer depends on if you obtain enough diagnosis early. The surgery is the best chances of the survival and sometimes the radiotherapy and chemotherapy can also be offered, but there would be no guarantee for a very long-term life. The surgical process implies a general anaesthetic and the sick part of the colon are removed and also a little extra on the two sides to ensure it than it has it all. The quantity of colon which must be removed changes from person to person but the majority of people will end up with a colostomy. It is where a small cut is made in the stomach and the two healthy colon are drawn by them and fixed are called a stoma. The stoma makes it possible so that the person has open his bowels by means of a   colostomy bag which is fixed at the stoma usually by an adhesive. These bags are disposable and keep all odors inside. The colostomy is sometimes only provisional according to how much bowels were removed. If it is to be only provisional it could be there up to six months of just to allow the colon to cure.

The tests carried out to diagnose the colon cancer include a sigmoidoscopy or a coloscopy. A sigmoidoscopy is when a camera is inserted in the anus to examine the sigmoid rectum and the colon. A coloscopy is when a camera with optical flexible fibres called a colonscope is put in the body via the anus and fed along the colon. Instruments can be supplied with bottom of the colonscope as it is how a biopsy would be carried out.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is a drug based therapy; which affects the whole body by passing through blood circulation. The goal of systemic chemotherapy and other treatments is to kill the cells of cancer which will extend from the origin of cancer to other parts of the body. Chemotherapy treatment is used especially for cancer. There are more than 50 chemotherapy drugs are available. Drugs are employed in various manners according to the type of cancer, its growth and the general health of the person being treated.

Various drugs of chemotherapy can only be employed or in the combinations of two drugs or more. Chemotherapy is employed with various stages of cancer. It is employed to treat the tumours affecting with the organs such as the breast, bowel, as well as for blood cancers such as leukemia. Chemotherapy is effective to kill the cancer cells because drugs are effective in affecting the division of cells quickly. The chemotherapy can cause side effects because the cancer cells are not the only cells which divide quickly in our body. The blood cells, intestinal area, mouth, vagina, nose, hair, and nails also undergo constant and fast division. This means that chemotherapy will also affect them.

The type of drugs used for chemotherapy depends on a certain number of factors such as the type of cancer, origin of cancer in our body, if cancer extends to other parts of the body, the general health of the person etc. People are supervised regularly in all their course of chemotherapy by physical examination, x-rays, blood as well as urine tests. When cancer extends to other parts of the body, it is difficult to cure these conditions entirely. In this case, the goal of chemotherapy is to control the progress of the disease and to prolong the period of the life of good quality for as long as possible. This is called palliative chemotherapy.

All drugs of chemotherapy perform the attacking of the cancer cells which divide quickly. The normal cells divide at a rate which is well controlled by the body. However, the division of cancer cells becomes uncontrolled and the production of new cells leads to the formation of a tumour or blood cancer. Drugs of chemotherapy affect the division of the cancer cells and kill them entirely.

In some types of cancer, especially leukemia, high degree of chemotherapy is employed. This treatment also destroyed several proper immunized cells of the body and must be followed by bone marrow transplant, which replaces tissues damaged by drugs of high amount.
Cancer can be defined as fast and uncontrolled growth of cells. Anti-cancer drugs functions efficiently in blocking the growth and the division of the cancer cells. Various drugs are used in various stages of the chemotherapy processes. Sometimes, a combination of drugs is most effective in killing the cancer cells.

Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer which affects the woman. The most common victims of cervical cancer are those women who are aged above 40. Cervical cancer is generally caused by HPV which will be transmitted by the sexual contact and after a certain period of time leads to the cancerous cells of cervix. When the tumour develops, it produces a variety of symptoms including the abnormal bleeding, the abnormal vaginal discharge, the pelvic back pains, pain while the urination, blood in the stool or urine. To have these symptoms cannot mean that there is cervical cancer. It is always best to consult your doctor when you feel any of these problems. If cervical cancer is detected early, it can be treated without deteriorating the fertility.

The best manner of detecting cervical cancer is to undergo the current regular cervical tests. The cervical cancer screening test is one of the best manners of detecting cervical cancer in the early stage. This test is not painful and just implies taking of cells from your cervix for the examination under microscope. The PAP test results are generally given as estimate on a scale from 1 to 5 where in 1 indicates the normal cervix cells and 5 indicates the serious signs of cancer. Although medical research constantly tries to create new and better manners of detecting cervical cancer, the PAP tests are the best technique that we have available today for the early tracking of cervical cancer. However, the PAP tests are not always precise and if other symptoms strongly suggest cervical cancer, a second round of the cervical tests could be recommended by the doctor.

Cervical cancer begins when the cells in the cervix start to develop uncontrollably forming a mass of additional tissue called the tumour. The malignant tumours are cancer cells, which can spread and damage the adjacent tissues and organs. The Cancer cells can also enter in to lymphatic system or blood circulation by breaking away malignant tumour. Thus cervical cancer extends to other parts of the body such as nearby lymph nodes, bones of the spine, and lungs. The propagation of cancer is a process.

Like any other cancer, cervical cancer has also different stages. Stage 0 is when cancer is located on the top layer of cells where stage 1 is when cancer is found in the cervix. In stage 2 Nearby fabrics are affected, whereas in stage 3 when cancer is prolonged to the lower part of the vagina. Stage 4 is when cancer spreads to other parts of the body like the flexible tank and the rectum.

The treatment for cervical cancer includes chemotherapy, the radiation therapy, the surgery or even a combination of all these methods.
The surgery is employed to treat the parts of cervix and body beside it. The radiation therapy is employed when the rays of great energy destroy the cervical cancer cells. There are two kinds of radiation: external and internal. Chemotherapy is defined as treatment where anti-cancer drugs are used to fight against cancer cells. But Chemotherapy have a lot of side effects.

Cancer Treatment

Cancer Treatment

Cancer is a sick state of the body which is caused by the uncontrolled and abnormal growth of cells. This growth could start in any organ and could quickly start to deviate with other nearby bodies. Cancer treatment includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biological therapy, and the hormone therapy. The doctors can employ one or a combination of methods, according to the type, stage and the location of cancer. The treatment of cancer may affect other healthy tissues and causes side effects.

The surgery is a common and oldest method to remove cancer. The side effects depend on many factors, including the size and the location of the tumour, the type of operation, and the health of the patient. Some patients believe that having a biopsy will spread the disease. It is very often that the surgeons take precautionary seps to prevent cancer from extending during the surgery. It also has a vital role in detecting and staging the cancer. Improvement in surgical techniques made it possible for the surgeons to operate successfully. The surgical treatment is used for much of types of cancer, particularly those which did not extend to other parts of the body. The majority of the people with cancer will have a certain type of surgery.

The radiation therapy employs rays of great energy to kill the cancer cells. The radiation can be given externally by a radiation machine which aims at the location of the tumour. It can also be given internally; a small container containing a radioactive substance is established close to cancer. The radioactive treatments are painless; the side effects are usually provisional. The patients feel themselves very tired after the treatment.

The treatment of chemotherapy is composed of drugs to kill the cancer cells. Chemotherapy is composed of single drug or a mixture of drugs which is offered according to the stage of cancer. Chemotherapy differs entirely from surgery, because in that the cancer-combat drugs are used to prevent cancer if it is extended to other parts of the body or blood. Million of people affected with cancers are undergoing the treatment of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a very easy way to prevent cancer.

The hormone therapy is employed to treat certain cancers which depend on the hormones for their growth. The hormone therapy prevents cancer cells to employ the hormone which they use to develop.  Hormone therapy also include surgery which implies the removal of organs that produce hormones.

The biological therapy stimulates the immune system of the body to fight the disease and can decrease some of the side effects of the treatment of cancer. The side effects change with the specific treatment. Generally these treatments tend to cause influenza-like symptoms, such as the cold, fever, muscle pain, the weakness, and loss of appetite, nausea and diarrhea. These problems can be serious, but leave quickly when the treatment stops.

Cancer

Cancer

Cancer is one of the words that make each one fear. Cancer occurs as a result of a tumour which develops and divides and attack and destroy adjacent tissues, and extends to distant anatomical sites by a process known as metastasis. All age groups of people can be affected by the Cancer, but the risk for the more common varieties tends to increase with the age. Cancer results in 13% of all death.

Cancer affects all types of people such as the young person and old man, the rich person and poor, men, women and children and it represents an enormous burden on patients, families and society. Cancer is one of the principal causes of many of the deaths in the world, particularly in the countries which are on the path of development. Many of these types of death can be controlled. Cancer can be detected early, treated and can be cured. Even at the extreme stage of cancer, its pain can be reduced.

Cancers start with a primary tumour. At a certain point, however, cells will be detached from the primary tumour and it travel through blood and lymph and establishes metastases in other places of the body. Metastasis is what usually kills the patient. Cancer Cells are usually less differentiated with the normal cells.

There are various types of cancer and any type of cancer is really bad news. All the types of cancer are representing a danger to the life. Even with that entire medical advancement we do not have a complete treatment for all the types of cancer. However, continuous research is going for finding better treatments for cancer and in increasing our knowledge about cancer. Some of the currently available treatments for some types of cancer, function only if cancer is discovered earlier.

Generally, cancer is named after the part of the body where it originates. The majority of the common types of cancer is lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, stomach cancer, cervical cancer and bone cancer. This could change according to geographical location. Cancer is also divided into primary and secondary, based on which part of the body it originates from or extend from another part of body.

Not only the treatment of various types of cancer is difficult but also their detection. In fact, the correct and convenient diagnosis is the treatment at the earlier stage for any type of cancer. If you are able to detect the cancer at the earlier stage, the more effective will be the treatment.

The old methods of treatment of cancer include things like surgical procedures for the displacement of malignant tissue and the use of chemotherapy and the radiation to destroy the malignant cells and to prevent their growth. There are other procedures for the cancer treatment which are being put in to use effectively - such a cancer treatment is the use of Tamoxifen in the hormone based treatment of cancer.

Since there is no final treatment of cancer is available, the best manner of approaching this monster is to take measures for protection against the cancer and the early stage of detecting cancer. The principal recommendations for the prevention of cancer include things like avoiding the use of tobacco, reducing the intake of alcoholic beverages, doing regular exercises and avoiding the direct exposure to the sun light.

Breast cancer

Breast cancer

The breast cancer become the second type of massacre of all cancers which are found at the man. In spite of this alarming number of its victims, it is pathetic to know that there is an absolute lack of information on the disease. The breast cancer is a malignant tumour developed starting from the cells and it is one of the most common cancers affecting females. The menstrual cycle is the other factor which should be considered. The women who smoke and drink the alcohol increase the risk to develop the breast cancer.

The breast cancer is more frequently developed in the single people and the married woman who did not give rise to the children, or if birth given then did not raise with the centre their offspring. The women who had a breast cancer on side to have a greater risk to develop the cancer on the opposed side, and if there are antecedents of breast cancer in their families, there are the greatest risks too.

The breast cancer is dependent with the obesity and the higher catch of the saturated fatty acids. The breast cancer is also dependent, with the continuous or sequential uses of the estrogen combined more of the therapy of progestine hormone. The women who had employed anti oral contraceptives for more than ten years are more vulnerable to the development of this disease.

On the other hand, the women making 4-5 hours of exercises per week reduce their risk of developing the breast cancer. The breast cancer is the abnormal growth of the cells with in the breast. These cells would incorporate like a piece, which would be called as breast tumour. The tumour can be smelled outside of the breast even when it is still inoffensive. With this inoffensive stage, it is called as benign tumour. The benign tumours can be surgically functional. If that is done, the risk of the advancement of the breast cancer is very negligible. But if one allows the tumour to grow, then it would lead to malignant stage. During this stage, cancer cells spreads in the surrounding tissues in such a degree that it would be impossible to remove it completely. When the cancerous cells enter in to blood circulation, there is no exit. The result is certain death.

One of the treatments of the breast cancer includes the radiation therapy or the radiotherapy. Much to the surprise of women there is very little side effects for this therapy and they are limited to the part being treated. The radiotherapy is an effective manner to destroy the cells of cancer and to provide the best chance that cancer will not return. Another method of this type of treatment is surgery which is usually the last recourse when all other methods are failed. In much of the case rebuilding is necessary after surgery for a part or the whole breast must be removed, which is known as mastectomy.
.
The most common systemic treatment is chemotherapy. The goal of chemotherapy is destroying all the cancer cells which could have spread from breast to other parts of the body. The reason chemotherapy functions and also the reason which it is hard on your body is because it quickly attacks the dividing cancer cells in your body. Another treatment which is not common is tamoxifen, which is a very powerful drug. This drug reduces the risk of breast cancer turning over after surgery and reduces even the risk of a woman never obtaining the breast cancer. However the side effects, although not mortals, can be very serious and uncomfortable.
